the escalating carbon tax: a great project for British Columbia
February 26, 2008
when i heard on my radio in my Low emission car ( toyota echo) this breaking news about new carbon tax in British Columbia i thought to myself
waou it s a great move…i have another good reason to visit all my green friends from Vancouver,BC
check this
The carbon tax will start on July 1 at a rate based on C$10 per tonne of carbon emissions and rise C$5 a year to C$30 per tonne by 2012. It works out to an extra 2.4 cents on a liter of gasoline, rising to 7.24 cents per liter of gasoline by 2012. The carbon tax on diesel and home heating oil will start at 2.7 cents per liter and increase to 8.2 cents per liter over the same five-year period. But the beautiful part is that the money, "C$1.8-billion over three years, will be returned to taxpayers through personal income tax and business tax cuts." This makes putting a price on carbon politically acceptable, and it leaves people with more of their hard-earned cash to switch to low-carbon technologies.
British Columbia has a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020, and this should help it reach that goal.
but after coming back home i made a quick investigation and i discovered to make a real impact in BC we should raise to C$85 per tonne to reach the 33% goal.
but please dont blame Carole Taylor the finance Minister from BC to start the first great move in North America about climate change…and change behaviors…wallet to wallet
she is a great couragous person
i m sure David Suzuki will be happy to persuade Stephen Harper following the same roadmap..for the next federal budget . The last Suzuki report reveals that a new carbon tax could generate $50B by 2020
David, Carole and all the green strategists, lobbyists, investors…let s wake up all together and take action in Canada !!! if you need me i m happy to help…

Converting land for biofuel worsens global warming
February 7, 2008
we know that biofuel is a pure smoke strategy to go green…and just a PR for Big agro business industries
i love this new study about biofuel. check this extract:
"Global agriculture is already producing food for six billion people. Producing food-based biofuel, too, will require that still more land be converted to agriculture."
Converting land to grow corn, sugar cane or soy beans — crops used in the production of biofuels — creates a "biofuel carbon debt" by releasing 17 to 420 times as much CO2 into the atmosphere as the greenhouse gas reductions which the biofuels provide by displacing fossil fuels.
Carbon is stored in dead trees and plants as well as in the soil, and naturally seeps into the atmosphere in the form of CO2. Converting native habitats to cropland increases the release of CO2 into the air, the report said.
It would take years, and in some cases centuries, before biofuels derived from crops on converted land would lead to a net reduction of greenhouse gases, according to the report.
The researchers calculated that in Indonesia, where wetlands are being converted to grow palm oil to produce biofuels, it will take 423 years before biofuel CO2 emmission savings would repay the carbon debt caused by the land conversion.more
Google Foundation at Davos talking about climate change…cool

Branding is about commitment….a great green strategy…from Larry Page and Sergey Brin…
Would the new US president change the GHG emissions curves
February 6, 2008
Annual GHG emissions in the US are projected to rise
from
7.2 gigatons C02e in 2005 to 9.7 gigatons in 2030 (+35%) source Mc Kinsey….dec 2007
we have some good CO2 inventory for sale before we hold our breath!!
this second graphic is more interesting about carbon absorption….
Renewable energies + a worldwide carbon stock exchange + Green UN should be the magic combo for future generations
I m sure a woman and a black man together can raise the consciousness of Carbon investors…
and it would need more than a Super Tuesday to achieve this…
