Bono and billionaires Bill and Melinda Gates have been selected as Time magazine’s ‘Persons of the Year’.

Describing the three as "Good Samaritans", the magazine said they
were being honoured because of their work in the area of debt relief
and the eradication of diseases such as AIDS and malaria.

Speaking to Time about his relationship with the Microsoft founder
and his wife, Bono said: "We’re united by deep curiosity. So from
stand-up comedy to quantum physics, there’s nothing we don’t cover. For
me, that’s what makes (good) company."

Commenting on his global health work, Bono continued: "When an Irish
rock star starts talking about it, people go, yeah, you’re paid to be
indulged and have these ideas. But when Bill Gates says you can fix
malaria in 10 years, they know he’s done a few spreadsheets."

Paying tribute to Bono’s Third World work, Bill Gates said: "It’s
not about making himself look good. He really reads this stuff; he
cares about the complexity."
