the escalating carbon tax: a great project for British Columbia

February 26, 2008

when i heard on my radio in my Low emission car ( toyota echo) this breaking news about new carbon tax in British Columbia i thought to myself

waou it s a great move…i have another good reason to visit all my green friends from Vancouver,BC

check this

The carbon tax will start on July 1 at a rate based on C$10 per tonne of carbon emissions and rise C$5 a year to C$30 per tonne by 2012. It works out to an extra 2.4 cents on a liter of gasoline, rising to 7.24 cents per liter of gasoline by 2012. The carbon tax on diesel and home heating oil will start at 2.7 cents per liter and increase to 8.2 cents per liter over the same five-year period. But the beautiful part is that the money, "C$1.8-billion over three years, will be returned to taxpayers through personal income tax and business tax cuts." This makes putting a price on carbon politically acceptable, and it leaves people with more of their hard-earned cash to switch to low-carbon technologies.

British Columbia has a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020, and this should help it reach that goal.

but after coming back home i made a quick investigation and i discovered to make a real impact in BC we should raise to C$85 per tonne to reach the 33% goal.

but please dont blame Carole Taylor the finance Minister from BC to start the first great move in North America about climate change…and change behaviors…wallet to wallet

she is a great couragous person

i m sure David Suzuki will be happy to persuade Stephen Harper following the same roadmap..for the next federal budget . The last Suzuki report reveals that a new carbon tax could generate $50B by 2020

Carbon David, Carole  and all the green strategists, lobbyists, investors…let s wake up all together and take action in Canada !!! if you need me i m happy to help…
